Lights Out: Saturday Nights at the Riverhead Raceway.
During the summers of 2021 and 2022, I livedon the North Fork of Long Island and stumbled upon the Riverhead Raceway — one of the last family-owned racetracks in the U.S. What began as a spontaneous visit turned into an ongoing documentary project capturing the passion and grit of a tight-knit racing community. Far from the gloss of major leagues, these drivers — plumbers, contractors, and local teens — race for the love of it, with entire families pitching in as mechanics, cooks, and cheerleaders. Shot on a mix of 35mm, 120mm film, and digital formats, this series celebrates the enduring spirit of local racing culture.
I may have moved away, but I often find myself wanting to return — drawn back by the roar, the rhythm, and the people who made it all matter.
